Deepfake tech used to digitally clone Hong Kong firm's CFO in video call; ₹207 crore stolen

A Hong Kong-based multinational company's chief financial officer was digitally cloned using deepfake technology, leading to an employee following instructions and making 15 transfers totalling about ₹207 crore to bank accounts. Scammers created a multi-person video conference imitating participants' voices and appearances, except the victim's. The victim received a phishing text in January.
