Delhi was declared India's capital on this day

Delhi was declared the capital of India by the British King George V on December 12, 1911, replacing Calcutta. However, the capital was inaugurated by the then Viceroy of India, Lord Irwin, in 1931 after the construction of the city was completed. The reason for changing the country's capital is said to be the convenient geographical location of Delhi.
