The demonetised notes which have been counted and processed for genuineness are shredded and compressed into bricks before being discarded through a tendering process, the RBI has said. "RBI does not recycle such processed notes," the central bank said in reply to an RTI query. It had estimated the value of old notes received at ₹15.28 lakh crore.
