Depression, anxiety cost world $1 tn: WHO

Depression and anxiety related disorders cost the global economy $1 trillion every year, according to a study by WHO. Further, the number of people suffering from such disorders rose nearly 50% to 61.5 crore during 1990-2013. Pitching for an increase in mental health spending, WHO calculated the financial returns on treating mental health patients are over four times the investment.
