Dermatologists warn black mehendi can cause severe skin burns

Black mehendi may contain para-phenylenediamine (PPD), a chemical used to create a darker, faster-lasting stain. Dermatologists warn that PPD can trigger severe allergic reactions, including redness, blistering, swelling, burns and lasting skin damage. Children and people with sensitive skin may be particularly vulnerable, making so-called "instant black mehendi" risky.
