Diabetes numbers soar worldwide, India second after China

A Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology study reveals 589 million adults worldwide lived with diabetes in 2024, a figure projected to reach 853 million by 2050. India ranks second with 90 million cases after China. Most patients live in low- and middle-income countries, where population growth, ageing, and urbanisation are driving the unchecked diabetes epidemic.
