While trying to mimic the extreme conditions found beneath the Earth's surface, scientists have previously converted peanut butter into diamonds. The carbon-rich peanut butter was placed and compressed between two diamonds, creating a 'stiletto heel effect'. Diamonds were used for the experiment as they have closely-linked carbon atoms and can withstand high amounts of pressure.
