Dinosaur-killing asteroid sped up bird evolution: Study

A UK-based study suggests the asteroid strike that triggered the extinction of dinosaurs 66 million years ago, led to an acceleration in evolution among its avian survivors, with reduction in sizes. Researchers further suggest human activity could be driving a similar mechanism, as more and more large animals go extinct because of hunting, habitat destruction, and climate change.
