Do button mushrooms give you vitamin D?
short by / on Monday, 1 December, 2025
Fresh button mushrooms contain ergosterol, which under UV exposure converts to vitamin D. Studies show UV-exposed button mushrooms can yield up to ~400 IU vitamin D per serving. Without UV light, vitamin D content is negligible. Therefore, only UV-treated or sun-exposed mushrooms reliably contribute to dietary vitamin D.
