Do children inherit their parents' debts in India?

In India, children are not personally liable for their parents’ debts after their death. Lenders can recover outstanding dues only from the deceased’s estate. Once liabilities are settled, remaining assets pass to the legal heirs. Co-borrowers, guarantors, and secured loans may carry separate legal obligations depending on the terms of the loan agreement.
