An increase in body temperature by just 1 degree Celsius can raise your basal metabolic rate by nearly 10-12.5%, making your body burn more calories to fuel immune responses. This rise in energy expenditure supports defence mechanisms-not weight loss. So, treat fever as healing work, not fat-burning, Dr Shikha Shiromani added.
