Does HPV increase the risk of oral and oropharyngeal cancer?

According to experts cited by Dr Neha, high-risk human papillomavirus strains, particularly HPV-16, are associated with an increased risk of oropharyngeal cancers. Viral integration can alter cellular regulation and promote malignant transformation. Although most HPV infections clear naturally, persistent infection remains a recognised oncogenic risk factor in oral tissues.
