Dogs pay more attention to consonants than vowels when people speak: Study

Dogs, like humans, may favour consonants over vowels when processing continuous speech, a study comparing brain activity in the two species found. Results suggest that similar speech-processing methods can emerge in humans and dogs without requiring human-like language abilities. Notably, across many languages, consonants generally provide more information than vowel sounds for identifying words.
