The dollar fell after US Justice Department threatened to indict chief of US Federal Reserve Jerome Powell. Powell, who has refused to cut interest rates as per US President Donald Trump's demands, said, "I've carried out my duties without political fear". The criminal investigation against Powell is related to his testimony about a $2.5-billion renovation of the central bank's headquarters.
