When we’re feeling distressed, we often scroll mindlessly seeking validation or relief, but this relief fades fast, leading to a cycle of doomscrolling. Psychiatrist Dr Sarthak Dave says even though negative content reinforces our emotions, it increases stress and anxiety. Though we hope to feel better, the habit worsens our stress and sleep, thus stopping or continuing feel equally distressing.
