India's DRDO plans to upgrade its modular DATRAN 1500 HP tank engine to 1800 HP for future Main Battle Tanks, supporting heavier armour and systems. DRDO is also exploring hybrid electric propulsion, combining diesel and electric motors, aiming for silent, stealth operations. This hybrid concept remains in the early stages of development.
