Senior DRDO official SK Mishra said BrahMos' dream began when ex-President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam saw supersonic engine in Moscow in 1993, which was incomplete over funding crunch after Soviet Union's dissolution. He then worked on a new type of missile, combining the engine with DRDO's under-development integrated guided missiles. India used BrahMos to strike Pakistani airbases in Operation Sindoor.
