A new study in the journal JAMA Network Open has found drinking certain alcoholic beverages can raise the risk of developing gout, an extremely painful form of arthritis. According to researchers, drinking champagne and beer frequently raises the body's uric acid levels. This forms needle-shaped crystals in the body that cause swelling, redness, and pain in the joints.
