Drug-resistant typhoid on the rise in Southeast Asia: Study

A new study in The Lancet Regional Health – Southeast Asia found that typhoid-causing bacteria have developed strong resistance to previously effective medicines. Doctors now largely avoid fluoroquinolones, using third-generation cephalosporins and azithromycin instead. Currently, three out of four typhoid cases involve drug-resistant bacteria.
