Earthquake destroys Kathmandu's Dharhara tower

The 7.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal on Saturday reduced Kathmandu's historic nine-storey (50.5 m high) Dharhara tower to rubble. It was built in 1832 by then PM Bhimsen Thapa. The earthquake also completely destroyed Durbar Square, a UNESCO-recognised world heritage site. There were also reports of slight damage to the sacred Hindu Pashupatinath temple.
