Standing 275-feet high above the ground, a giant sequoia tree located in California, US is Earth's largest living single-stem tree by volume. Named "General Sherman", the over 2,000-year-old tree has a base diameter of 36 feet and estimated volume of 1,487 cubic meters. It was named after American Civil War general William Tecumseh Sherman in 1879, by naturalist James Wolverton.
