Earth's N Hemisphere witnesses year's shortest day on Dec 21

The Northern Hemisphere of the planet observed the Winter Solstice, the shortest day and longest night of the year, on December 21. A Solstice is an astronomical event when the tilt of Earth's axis with respect to the Sun is maximum. This day also marks the longest day of the year in the Southern Hemisphere, called the Summer Solstice.
