British East India Company, which played a key role in the establishment of the British empire in India, was bought by an India-born businessman, Sanjiv Mehta in 2005. Although dissolved in 1874, a small remnant of the company lived on, consisting of its trading name. The company now deals in luxury foods, including varieties of tea, chocolates and spices.
