The Economic Survey 2018-19 has called for a national level minimum wage that will allow states to fix minimum wages at levels not lower than the floor wage. It said the present system in India has 1,915 minimum wages defined for various scheduled job categories. The Minimum Wages Act, 1948, doesn't cover one in every three workers, the Survey added.
