Economist Surjit Bhalla says protectionism hurts Indian industry
Economist Surjit Bhalla said protectionism is holding back Indian manufacturing by shielding domestic companies from global competition. He said tariffs, non-tariff barriers and Quality Control Orders can deter investment and weaken exports. Bhalla added that India needs more private investment, manufacturing exports and access to global demand for faster, sustained economic growth.
