According to Eden Gardens curator Sujan Mukherjee, the pitch prepared for the first Test between India and South Africa is expected to be a "good, sporting wicket." Rather than turning into a "rank turner," the surface should provide a fair contest: as the match progresses, batsmen will get their chances, but bowlers, both seamers and spinners, won't be left wanting.
