Einstein was offered the Presidency of Israel in 1952

After the death of Israel's first President in 1952, "the greatest Jew alive" Albert Einstein was offered the Presidency of Israel. However, he declined the offer as he felt he was not suited for the post. Notably, Israel was established as a Jewish state in 1948, and Einstein himself had left Germany in 1933 to avoid persecution by the Nazis.
