The world's richest person Elon Musk took to X to share a meme on OpenAI after a series of developments at the company that saw CEO Sam Altman being fired by the board. Emmett Shear was appointed as OpenAI's interim CEO. Following Sam's exit, almost all of OpenAI's employees threatened to quit the company if the board didn't resign.

A fire broke out at Maha Kumb Mela in Prayagraj on Thursday, a day after a stampede claimed 30 lives. The fire broke out in sector-22 and several tents were reportedly burned. No casualties/injuries have been reported yet, while police and fire brigade officials have reached the spot. A cylinder blast triggered a blaze at Maha Kumbh on January 19.

18 bodies pulled from river after plane, helicopter collide mid-air in US

At least 18 bodies have been pulled from Potomac River by emergency services following a plane crash in US, a police official has said, according to CBS News. No survivors have been found yet. The American Airlines regional jet with over 60 people on board collided mid-air with a military helicopter in Washington DC and crashed into the river.

Under old regime, there's no tax on income up to ₹2.5 lakh/year, 5% on ₹2.5-5 lakh, 20% on ₹5-10 lakh and 30% on ₹10-lakh-plus income.

30 confirmed killed in Maha Kumbh stampede

Thirty people have died in the stampede that took place at the Maha Kumbh between 1-2 am on Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh Police has confirmed. "25 people have been identified and the identification of the remaining 5 is being done," DIG Maha Kumbh, Vaibhav Krishna, said. Around 90 injured were taken to the hospital, of whom 30 died, he said.

The BAS, which sets the clock annually, said nuclear threats, potential misuses of advances in biology and artificial intelligence, and climate change were the key factors.
Dogs seen playing with skull near medical college in MP; probe launched

An investigation has been launched after a couple of stray dogs were seen playing with a skull near the hostel of a government-run NSCB Medical College in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur. The dean informed police after a video of the dogs playing with a skull surfaced on social media. It was yet to be ascertained if it was a human skull.

HC seeks govt's reply on PIL to add cancer warning on alcohol bottles

The Bombay High Court sought responses from the Centre, Maharashtra government and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking directions to add cancer warning labels on alcohol bottles. The PIL filed by a 24-year-old Pune resident claimed that warning information would help reduce the ill effects and overuse of alcohol consumption.
What is dividend distribution tax and how is it levied?

Dividend distribution tax (DDT) falls under government's tax revenue and is collected on profits that a person receives from companies of which they hold shares. Until 2020, companies bore DDT on profits they shared with shareholders. After 2020, recipients bear DDT as companies deduct 10% of it as tax deducted at source on dividends exceeding ₹5,000 in a financial year.
