Marking 50 years of Emergency, BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi on Wednesday said, "The period of Emergency wasn't just unconstitutional for India...but it also aimed to completely destroy the four pillars of democracy." He added, "The way democracy was crushed after independence, today's generation needs to remember it." During the Emergency, civil liberties were suspended by then-PM Indira Gandhi.
