Endangered snow leopard numbers rise in Afghanistan

Conservation efforts over seven years have reportedly brought the snow leopard back from the brink of extinction in Afghanistan. Researchers estimate there are about 140 snow leopards in Afghanistan's Wakhan National Park, a "sustainable" number. Classified an endangered species by the World Wildlife Fund, the snow leopard has often been killed by hunters for skin and farmers to protect livestock.
