Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Thursday said that the military has "liberated" the western region of Tigray. "In those liberated areas, the army is now providing humanitarian assistance and services," he added. Last week, Ahmed had ordered a military offensive against the local government of the Tigray region following an alleged attack on an army base.
