NASA's Perseverance rover has found evidence suggesting that Mars was once teeming with water and a tropical oasis. It collected rocks showing light-coloured spots likely made of aluminium-rich kaolinite clay, which on Earth forms after prolonged rainfall leaches other minerals away. Found in today's rainforests, such clay hints suggest Mars may have once been home to a lush oasis.
