David Rush, an ex-CIA official found in possession of more than 300 gold bars worth an estimated $40 million, allegedly created a fake, highly classified intelligence programme to divert millions of dollars for personal use. Prosecutors described him as a "master manipulator" who allegedly misled neighbours about his profession and exploited his senior position within the intelligence community.
