Former journalist Santu Pan, who was arrested by West Bengal police while reporting live from Sandeshkhali on protests against local TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh in 2024, has been fielded by the BJP from Tarakeswar for the West Bengal Assembly elections. Pan was arrested a day after villagers protested, demanding arrest of Sheikh and his aides over allegations of sexual assault.
