Ex-Syrian President Bashar al-Assad sentenced to death by Syrian court

A Syrian court has sentenced the country's ousted President Bashar al-Assad to death in absentia, AFP reported. It convicted Assad, who was ousted in 2024, over charges of "war crimes" and "crimes against humanity" during Syrian civil war. Assad fled with his family to Russia when opposition fighters seized control of Syria and ended his family’s 50 years of rule.
