India has reported a few cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), a common respiratory virus affecting most people before age five. Health officials confirm it has been in circulation for decades and is not a new threat. Infectious disease expert Dr Ishwar Gilada emphasised precautions like hygiene and avoiding close contact with infected individuals to stay safe.
