Eyes wait for cornea while consent rests with grieving families

India faces a widening corneal transplant gap, with experts pointing to low donation, family consent, uneven tissue distribution and limited infrastructure. Despite stronger hospital retrieval programmes and advances that allow one donor cornea to benefit multiple recipients, patients can still wait months or years for sight-restoring surgery.
