Global Hunger Index report that released Monday estimated the number of hungry people in world in 2011-13 at 842-million, with India inhabiting around 25% of the population (i.e. 21-crore). Although the proportion of undernourished declined from about 21% to 17.5% between 2003-07 and 2008-12, India continued to be in the "Alarming" category of countries characterized by severity of hunger.
