Facebook has made it mandatory for users to have a Facebook account to be able to sign-up for Messenger. Previously, users with no Facebook account could sign-up with just their phone number. A spokesperson of the social media giant said the new rule applies to new Messenger users only and would not affect any of the existing ones.
