Mapillary, a Swedish startup that builds immersive maps by crowdsourcing street-level imagery, has been acquired by Facebook. CEO Jan Erik Solem, who founded Mapillary after leaving Apple in 2013, said its technology would be used to power products like Facebook Marketplace and supply data to humanitarian organisations. Solem had sold his facial recognition startup, Polar Rose, to Apple in 2010.
