Acton then co-founded WhatsApp with Jan Koum, creating a user-friendly, encrypted, ad-free messaging app. By 2014, WhatsApp had over 600 million users. Facebook, seeing its potential, acquired WhatsApp for $19 billion, marking one of the largest tech acquisitions ever and highlighting a missed opportunity.
