From July 2025, beneficiaries under India's ICDS have been required to clear facial recognition checks to access rations. The scheme serves 4.73 crore people. By the end of 2025, nearly half of eligible beneficiaries were not receiving rations, with authentication failures linked to exclusions across Bihar, Jharkhand and Karnataka.
