Fact Check: Is radium exposure not toxic to humans?
short by / on Thursday, 5 February, 2026
Radium is a radioactive element that emits alpha, beta and gamma radiation. When internalised, it behaves like calcium and deposits in bones. Dr Moujhuri Nandi, Senior Consultant Radiation Oncologist, notes chronic high exposure correlates with bone sarcomas, carcinomas, other disorders, demonstrating radium's radiotoxicity increases with dose and duration, rather than being benign at all levels.
