Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali said failing Class 9 scarred him for life. On the podcast, he recalled the shame of returning to school as a 'repeater', but said opening his mind afterwards transformed his grades dramatically. That failure, he added, taught him to accept many later failures, something his successes never managed to do.
