Media reports were based on statement by Kazakhstan's China embassy, which said the infection was deadlier than COVID-19. The Chinese embassy had claimed pneumonia in Kazakhstan killed 1,772 people in first half of 2020, with 628 deaths in June, including Chinese citizens.
