Farmers turn degraded land into hazelnut orchards in Bhutan

Thousands of farmers from Bhutan's Thimphu region are turning steep, degraded and once difficult to cultivate land into hazelnut orchards. The crop is high-value and does not require regular ploughing and can be grown on fallow hills in the country. The trees also help protect the topsoil from washing away during rains as their roots fix the soil in place.
