Feathered fossils provide clues about how early birds took flights

A preserved Archaeopteryx fossil has provided insights into how earliest birds first took flights 150 million years ago. The scientists identified for the first time in Archaeopteryx fossil the presence of specialised feathers called tertials on both wings. The specimen, unearthed in Germany, is one of the most complete and best preserved of the 14 known Archaeopteryx fossils since 1861.
