A fifth Chinese research vessel, Da Yang Yi Hao, has now entered the Indian Ocean Region, intensifying Beijing’s maritime footprint. Equipped for deep-sea mineral prospecting and ocean-floor mapping, the ship is en route to the Maldives, while four other Chinese platforms are currently engaged in survey operations across the basin.
