Newly released Epstein files showed that convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein bought 330 gallons of sulfuric acid and delivered it to his private island on December 6, 2018. The date reportedly coincided with a reopening of a renewed federal investigation into Epstein's sex-trafficking activities. It fueled online speculation the acid may have been meant to destroy evidence or human remains.
