Using bad words against a woman on social media falls under the definition of outraging a woman's modesty, which is punishable with imprisonment up to 3 years under section 79 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. It is a cognizable offence, so any aggrieved woman can approach the police station to lodge an FIR, said Advocate Deep Somani.
